Rampur Hydro Power Station of 412 MW installed capacity is located on River Satluj, a major tributary of Indus basin, in Shimla and Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh in North India. Rampur HPS is designed to generate 1878 million units of electricity each year. The plant is designed in tandem with run of the river plant Nathpa Jhakri (1500 MW) . A Memorandum of Understanding for execution of Rampur Project was signed between Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh on October, 2004.
Major works project began in February 2007, after completion of HRT, Surge Shaft, Valve House, Power House, TRT and other associated works, water filling of water Conductor System completed in March, 2014 successfully without any leakage.
The Project has been financed on a 70:30 debt equity ratio basis. The Project had the backing of World Bank. Estimated cost of the project at March, 2006 price level was Rs. 2047.06 crores.
Power generated from Rampur HPS is distributed to Northern Regional states i.e. Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, J&K, Punjab, Rajesthan, UP, Uttrakhand as per their percentage allocation by ministry of Power.
Six units of the project have been commissioned progressively till December, 2014 as per following details.

- The Rampur project is designed to work in tandem with the upstream 1500 MW Natpha Jhakri project.
- Rampur project draws the outflow water from the larger upstream project.
- A head race concrete line tunnel of 15.177 Km length with a 10.50 meter diameter.
- A 165 meter high with a 38 meter diameter surge shaft that is open to the sky.
- A Surface type valve house
- A surface power house for 6 vertical Axis Francis turbines of 68.67 MW each to utilize a design head of 119.10 meters.
- A 67.15 meter long with 10.50 meter diameter, horse shoe type and concrete lined tail race tunnel with an open channel.
Estimated cost at March 2006 Price Level with debt : equity ratio of 70 : 30 is Rs. 2047.03 Crores including interest during construction (IDC ) and financing charges ( FC ) of Rs. 260.41 Crores and Rs. 1.46 Crores respectively. Cost to completion is under approval of Govt. of India.
